The Cologne Art Book Fair (TCABF) was originated in 2015 by André Sauer, Verena Maas und (Tim), the people behind TBOOKS COLOGNE, providing a new and invaluable interface for friends, collectors and makers of artists’ books, fanzines, editions & unique prints. After the success of TCABF 2015, this year’s edition will once again take place in Kunsthaus Rhenania, from August 19 to 21, 2016.
This year’s fair will welcome 50 exhibitors: artists and publishers who have devoted themselves to the medium of “the book as art”. The curatorial focus is England and its artists’ book scene, presenting artists’ book makers and self-publishing artists who are otherwise poorly represented at international fairs, but whose work is absolutely formative. In addition, an “art vinyl” section will be devoted to a special form of publication: records released by visual artists. This new section was conceived in collaboration with the Cologne record shop a-Musik, represented by the art historian Wolfgang Brauneis and Frank Dommert. Both run a-Musik, an important address for artists’ records, and have produced numerous visual artists as well as spoken, published and taught regularly on this subject.

The exhibition will take place in the main hall of Kunsthaus Rhenania. It will be complemented by a fringe programme in several ateliers in the same building: first publications, readings and thematic talks by the makers of artists’ book themselves will take place parallel to the fair and provide additional variety to the schedule.

The Cologne Art Book Fair will open its doors for the first time in 2015. The annual event aims to become a must for anyone who is interested in the book as a piece of art. This year’s fair will bring together around 40 international publishers, dedicated to the field of artists’ books in any form. Curated by (Tim), the bookfair will focus on publishers and self-publishing artists based in the Rhineland. Alongside the fair, a series of talks, book launches and readings will broaden the range of interest. The book fair will take place in the Kunsthaus Rhenania and is hosted by the triumvirate André Sauer, Verena Maas and (Tim). Located on the beautiful river Rhine, the Kunsthaus has been a home for artists since 1987. The poster and graphic output for The Cologne Art Book Fair was created by Hamed Eshrat.
In memory of our friend Stefan Schuelke.
